Elden Campbell — a former Los Angeles Lakers big player and prominent fixture on the club during the ’90s — has died at 57.
Family sources told TMZ … he died abruptly Monday, but they declined to identify his cause of death. We’ve been informed he wasn’t ill.
The 6’11” center played 15 years in the NBA — more than half of that tenure in the purple and gold. The Lakers chose Campbell in the first round in 1990, and he went on to share the floor with luminaries like Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.
Campbell used to average nearly 15 points per game for the Lakers during 1995-96 season. In 1999, he was traded to the Charolette Hornets, where he produced some of his best stats and filled the stat book.
What comes as a twist in his career is his Championship ring. He won it with Detroit Pistons by beating guess who in the 2004 finals?
Los Angeles Lakers. RIP Elden!
