At last, Lane Kiffin has revealed his ideas for the future. After days of rumors, Kiffin officially announced his transfer from Ole Miss to LSU in a statement.
For six seasons, Kiffin led the Rebels as their head coach. In that period, the squad went 55-19, placed in the top 15 three times, and had double-digit wins in four of his seasons. Additionally, he guided Ole Miss to two New Year’s Six bowls and the Peach Bowl in 2023. With an 11-1 record this season, the Rebels are probably going to make their College Football Playoff debut.
While the school fought to keep him in Oxford, Kiffin couldn’t pass up the riches LSU could give. The Tigers have long been one of college football’s finest programs.
The LSU job opened up in late October after coach Brian Kelly was sacked. Kelly had a 34–14 record as the Tigers’ head football coach during three complete seasons plus eight games prior to his dismissal in 2025. He became the first LSU coach to not win a national title in his career since Gerry DiNardo led the Tigers from 1995 to ‘99.
It didn’t take long for him to land on his feet. Kiffin was appointed head coach at Tennessee two months later, and the team had a 7-6 record in 2009. As his first year in Knoxville was closing up, Carroll departed USC to pursue the Seahawks’ job, and Kiffin left to replace him in Los Angeles.
After finishing 8-5 in Kiffin’s first season, the Trojans peaked in 2011 under quarterback Matt Barkley, going 10-2 and ranking sixth in the nation. Due to the consequences from the Reggie Bush controversy, USC was not eligible for the postseason that year. Unfortunately, the Trojans never went back to that stage.
