La’Andre Thomas, a former football player for the Memphis Tigers, is being investigated for reportedly drawing a gun on police officers, which led to his death in an officer-involved shooting in Georgia last week. He was 27 years old.
The Sandy Springs Police Department was called to the Dunwoody Place neighborhood about 10:30 AM on December 4th, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, after a 911 caller reported that a guy was abusing her as she was walking her dog.
According to the GBI, Sandy Springs police located the 27-year-old at a bus stop close to the 8000 block of Dunwoody Place after identifying the man as Thomas based on surveillance footage.
Before allegedly reaching for his belt to grab a firearm, Thomas allegedly approached the cops and struck up a conversation.
The GBI stated:
“During the conversation, Thomas pulled a handgun from his waistband,”, “One officer then shot Thomas, injuring him.”
After being taken to a local hospital in severe condition, Thomas was eventually declared deceased. The officer-involved shooting is being looked into, according to the GBI.
