The cousin of Luigi Mangione is traveling to Brooklyn to play professional soccer, not to visit the Metropolitan Detention Center.
On Wednesday, Brooklyn FC of the USL made the intriguing announcement that 24-year-old Peter Mangione would be joining the team.
The squad claimed to have seen Mangione develop his career at Penn State, where he won two Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year awards and scored thirty-one goals.
Last year, he was also a major player for FC Cincinnati 2 in the MLS Next Pro.
The group stated:
“He brings a balanced midfield profile to Brooklyn with the engine to cover ground,”
“and the end product to impact matches in the final third.”
Of course, his last name sticks out — it’s the same as Luigi, who is accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on the streets of Midtown Manhattan on December 4, 2024.
Video of Thompson’s murder showed someone approaching him outside the New York Hilton Midtown hotel and shooting him in the back and leg.
Five days later, Luigi was taken into custody in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and charged with multiple offenses, including murder.
