Devonta Lee, a former wide receiver for the LSU Tigers, died at the age of 27.
According to KTVE, Lee’s mother, Lacresia Brown, confirmed the devastating news and said that Lee had been fighting cancer at the time of his death.
She stated to the publication:
‘He was a fighter and he loved everybody. [Devonta] was a good kid [and would] do anything for anybody. He gave his all in anything he did.
‘He worked out every day [and was] a very hard, dedicated player [who] never gave up in football. [I will miss] my son.’
Additionally, LSU posted a heartfelt ode to Lee on X that said:
‘The LSU Football family mourns the loss of former Tiger, Devonta Lee. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates.’
Before moving to Louisiana Tech, where he participated in three games over two seasons, Lee attended LSU from 2019 to 2021. He played wide receiver for the Tigers, who won the 2019 national title.
