Jaxon Smith-Njigba did not just win a Super Bowl. He also won an unexpected side quest: correcting Druski in public. And honestly, that might deserve its own trophy thanks to BSO‘s Robert Littal.
During the NFL Awards, comedian Druski decided to have a little fun with Jaxon’s last name, or at least he tried. He stretched it, twisted it and mispronounced it like he was ordering something complicated at a coffee shop. The crowd laughed, Druski smiled. He thought he cooked but he did not.
Because a few days later, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the Super Bowl LX champion with the Seattle Seahawks had to hit back at him really hard! Ring secured, confetti still in his hair, confidence on max level. And that is when he politely, calmly, and effortlessly put Druski in his place, where he truly belongs.
No yelling, no insults. Just championship energy after Robert Littal asked Njibga why his name means so much to him.
I asked world champ Ohio State Buckeye Jaxon Smith-Njigba if he could tell the world why his name means so much to him. Just take a listen and make this go as viral as when they make a joke out of it #SuperBowl pic.twitter.com/YSsSpIasLw

“Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Put respect on it, you here me? Sierra Leone. My grandfather came to the United States in the 70s. Had to work for everything that he had,” Smith-Njigba told BSO.
“He brought a lot of people over here. He brought a lot of family over here and he was the leader and he took pride in who he was and what he had to give back. I represent him. I represent my family. I represent Sierra Leone. Bo, Freetown. It’s an honor just to even say that,” he continued.
“I appreciate you asking that question because I wanted to say that up here in front of y’all and I take great pride in it.”
In the end, everyone laughed. Druski laughed, Jaxon laughed but the lesson was clear: you can joke about names. Just make sure the person you are joking about is not holding a Super Bowl ring when they respond, because when a champion corrects you politely, it somehow hurts more.
Druski mispronounced Jaxon Smith-Njigba's name on purpose, right?
