There are two types of NBA moments: actual basketball plays, and the internet turning a two-second clip into a full-blown soap opera. Enter Alperen Şengün and his accidental starring role in “Did He Just Disrespect LeBron James?”
So here’s what happened. Before Game 1, cameras are rolling, fans are watching, and suddenly Şengün stands up. That’s it, that’s the crime scene. No words, no dramatic stare-down. Just standing up.
The internet reacted like he had just challenged LeBron to a duel at center court.
A lot of attention will be paid towards Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun with teammate Kevin Durant out for Game 1 against the Los Angeles Lakers (Knee). #Rockets #Sarge @TheRocketsWire pic.twitter.com/qxWZIVdA1x

Şengün quickly cleared things up, because apparently even standing requires a press conference now.
“It’s kind of funny. I was just trying to get something out of my pocket,” the Houston Rockets’ big man said. “That’s why I got up. No disrespect to LeBron … but I didn’t (stand) up for him.”
Watching the video, you can see Şengün trying to get something from his right pocket for a few seconds before James walked by.
The Rockets lost Game 1 to the hobbled Lakers team. James had 19 points and 13 assists. Şengün matched his scoring but shot just 6-for-19 from the field.
In the end, Şengün handled it the right way. Calm explanation, no drama, no fake tough-guy energy. Just vibes, and honestly, that’s refreshing.
So no, there was no secret beef, no hidden message, no “young star challenges the king” storyline. Just a guy standing up at the wrong time in front of the right camera, and that’s the NBA in 2026: where even your posture can go viral.
