Following a physical dispute between boxer Alycia Baumgardner and fellow fighter Claressa Shields, Dez Bryant made fun of the brother of Baumgardner on X (previously Twitter). Bryant defended Shields, calling Baumgardner a “hypocrite” and “overgrown child” who was intentionally trying to destroy Shields’ reputation out of jealousy.
When Claressa Shields was permanently barred from all Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) events after a physical altercation—reportedly a slap—with Baumgardner, the controversy reached its height. Baumgardner and her supporters reportedly thought about suing Shields after the event.

I suggest that Alycia & her family stand down & do not press charges or sue Claressa..
Everything she worked for will be turned in powder overnight as the dislike of her character is growing rapidly… pic.twitter.com/i7Y8kudVSy

With connections to the combat sports world, Dez Bryant entered the battle to openly support Shields. Bryant vented his rage at Baumgardner’s brother and Baumgardner herself in a string of now-deleted or extensively shared posts on X, describing their previous dynamic:
Envy and Provocation: According to Bryant, Baumgardner aggressively provoked Shields in an attempt to destroy her character because he was jealous of her.

Damaging Character: Bryant chastised Baumgardner’s staff, telling them to refrain from filing charges and cautioning them that their attempts at public character assassination would only backfire and reduce her own fan base.
