Legal filings always have a way of turning into internet popcorn content, even when they probably shouldn’t. This time, the spotlight has landed on Miles Bridges after reports surfaced about a new motion involving his ex, Mychelle Johnson.
According to the claims in the filing, Bridges is asking a judge to require Johnson to undergo a psychological evaluation. The argument, as described in reports, is tied to allegations that she has allegedly become overly focused on his current girlfriend.
Yes, this is the kind of sentence that makes everyone pause and reread it twice, because courtrooms, apparently, are now also group chat extensions.
Now, before anyone starts treating this like confirmed reality TV drama, it’s important to keep it where it belongs: in the realm of legal claims and allegations, nothing is finalized just because it shows up in filings. Courts still have this old-fashioned habit of reviewing evidence and making decisions.
But online? That’s a different courtroom entirely.
Bridges claimed that Johnson has been failing to prioritize the needs of the four children that they share over her own grievances.
Among the allegations Bridges made in the filing, he said that Johnson “initiates prolonged, emotionally charged communications during late-night and early-morning hours.”
The court filing includes alleged messages that Bridges claimed show an “intense and persistent preoccupation with” his new girlfriend. And that is the basis on which he is asking the court to make her undergo a “comprehensive psychological evaluation.”
Amid the claims, Bridges also accused Johnson of threatening to circulate “intimate information” about him, which she denied.
The legal filing comes just days after it came to light that a Mecklenburg County judge granted Bridges a temporary restraining order against Johnson after it was alleged that she tampered with the tires on his car outside Spectrum Center while he was suited up for the Hornets on March 21.
Bridges’ attorney Sean Lindsey filed an emergency motion on April 8.
It is alleged in the filing that someone recognized Johnson in the parking garage and when they called her name, she fled and ran from security, the Charlotte Observer reported.
In reality, this is still an active legal situation, and the only guaranteed thing is that the court will decide what matters and what doesn’t.
The internet, however, has already given it a soundtrack, and a hashtag.
