Angela Simmons just gave the internet another moment to pause, rewind, and react in every direction at once.
The entrepreneur and TV personality recently opened up about her personal journey with abstinence and relationships during an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay. And as always, the internet did what it does best: listen, react, and immediately turn it into a full-blown conversation.
Simmons shared that she originally planned to practice abstinence until marriage. Not a week, not a month, until marriage. That is a long-term commitment in a world where people struggle to finish a text conversation.
According to her, that plan stayed in place for years. She said she ultimately lost her virginity at the age of 28. And just like that, social media got another topic to dissect like it was a playoff game film.
“I hold my Dad in a very, very high regard,” Simmons explained, before adding that a visit to church also cemented her decision to stay abstinent.
“And then, one day, I remember going to church and they were discussing all these things about waiting for marriage, and I was like, ‘You know what, I’mma wait,'” she said.
“It went from my dad telling me to hearing it in church, and then I was like, ‘I’m just gonna wait until I meet the right person for marriage,'” Simmons continued. “Then, time kept ticking, and then I was like, ‘Dang, I’m 28. This is crazy.'”
Simmons lost her virginity to then-fiancé Sutton Tennyson, and welcomed a child.
At the end of the day, Simmons’ story is simply that: her story. Personal, reflective, and tied to choices she made at different stages of life.
The internet, however, will always treat personal stories like group discussions, even when nobody asked for a class debate.
