Caitlin Clark Lashes Out at Refs After 5th Technical Foul

Caitlin Clark, a prominent player for the Indiana Fever, will not be automatically suspended for one game after her fifth technical foul of the season.

The WNBA will not overturn the technical foul Clark was given during the fourth quarter of the Fever’s 86-77 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Monday, according to James Boyd of The Athletic.

After Clark was called for a foul, he got into a verbal altercation with Mercury player DeWanna Bonner. When Clark began clapping at Mercury players, officials intervened to defuse the tension and a technical foul was called. She said:

“We should all just go on the calendar now and pick a game that I’m gonna be suspended for if I’m gonna get technicals for clapping,”

Clark claimed that the referees’ justification for giving her a tech was “instigating” the incident.

“I said, ‘Why did you give me a technical foul?'” “She said because I was clapping and instigating. I said, ‘OK, then you don’t like competitive basketball.’ That’s just facts. That’s just reality. So disappointing from them.”

Stephanie White, the head coach of the Fever, admitted that her top player must exercise some “control” in these circumstances.

“There are natural things that happen, that the energy of the game creates when you do get those, but there are some that we can be a little more in control of,”  “So yes, we’ll continue to remind her, and I think she has to have an awareness.”
