Diamond Donaldson found herself making headlines after being arrested by the Palm Beach Police Department on a charge of offering to commit prostitution, according to a probable cause affidavit. The charge is a second-degree misdemeanor.
As with any criminal case, the allegations remain just allegations and the legal process will ultimately determine the outcome.
Still, the details have sparked plenty of chatter online.
According to authorities, the alleged arrangement involved a price tag of $2K. In an era where everything seems more expensive, social media users immediately began doing what they do best: making jokes.
Police said the investigation began June 5, when the department’s Special Investigations Unit received a crime tip from The Breakers about a non-hotel guest suspected of prostitution activity. According to the affidavit, Breakers team members reported that Donaldson had been seen entering HMF alone near the end of the evening, ordering one drink at the bar and flirtatiously engaging with multiple male guests.
The tip also said Donaldson’s behavior was consistent with people previously trespassed from the property for alleged solicitation, and that a review of prior visits showed three similar appearances within the last month.
Investigators said an undercover officer began texting Donaldson on June 9 and arranged to meet her at The Breakers. During the exchange, police said Donaldson asked whether they should “talk about price,” then allegedly told the undercover officer she usually started at around $2,000 for a few hours.
Palm Beach residents probably woke up expecting another peaceful day of sunshine and ocean views. Instead, they got a headline that quickly spread far beyond Florida.
On June 11, police said the undercover officer arrived at HMF with a recording device and pre-recorded Palm Beach Police covert funds. Investigators also secured a hotel room at The Breakers that was equipped with audio and video recording devices.
According to the affidavit, Donaldson and the undercover officer spoke at HMF before going to room 5207. Once inside, police said the officer gave a predetermined signal after determining there was probable cause that Donaldson had agreed to a sexual act in exchange for money.
Donaldson was arrested inside the room without incident, according to police.
In other words, another day, another headline proving that common sense remains one of the rarest luxury items on the market.
