Elena Moore, a personal trainer in South Carolina, was pronounced dead last Friday. Her autopsy revealed no clear cause of death and no evidence of violent injuries, therefore the cause of her death is still unknown.
The inspection, according to the authorities, did not uncover any cuts, bruises, gunshot wounds, stab wounds, blunt-force trauma, strangling, or other outward injuries, so investigators will have to wait until they can ascertain the precise nature of the incident.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher reports that the preliminary autopsy was completed on Saturday and that further testing, such as toxicology screening and histology investigations, are still in progress. The reason and manner of Moore’s death are yet unknown until those results are obtained.
Moore vanished two weeks ago after heading toward a wooded area from a Planet Fitness. The following day, her husband reported her missing, which prompted a thorough search.
Authorities found a body in the same wooded area a few days later, dressed in the identical clothes Moore was wearing when she disappeared. On Friday, authorities verified that the body belonged to Moore, who was 39 years old.
During a brunch outing, one of Moore’s friends told Elena that she was afraid for her life and that Elena had been acting “paranoid” in the weeks prior to her abduction.
With the autopsy ruling out evident physical injuries but providing no quick reason for her death, detectives currently seem to have more questions than answers.
