Aces center A’ja Wilson scored 34 points (plus 12 rebounds and nine assists) in Las Vegas’ 101-91 victory over the Seattle Storm on Monday night, making history as the fastest WNBA player to surpass 6,000 career points. With her effort, she now has 6,004 points total.
She set that record at an unprecedented pace. She reached the milestone in just 278 career games, which is far fewer than the 291 games required by former Mercury player Diana Taurasi, the WNBA’s all-time top scorer. According to ESPN’s Michael Voepel, it is also quicker than Liberty forward Breanna Stewart, who scored 6,000 points in 293 games. She said:
“I’m just grateful to be able to do what I do with the people I love”. “I’ve seen so many different defenses, different schemes. Yet we still show up every single day, ready to work and ready to be great. I’m just truly grateful for every teammate I’ve come in contact with that has played alongside me for this 6,000.”
Throughout her eight complete seasons in the league (the 2026 campaign is her ninth overall), Wilson has amassed a Hall of Fame-caliber resume. She has started 277 of the 278 games she has played, and she is undoubtedly on track to break a number of records throughout her tenure in the league. She was voted the Most Valuable Player for the fourth time overall and for the second year in a row last season, making her the first player in W history to do so.
She currently leads the league in both average points per game (25.9) and average blocks per game (2.4).
