According to reports, unrest is growing at the New York Times as an internal investigation involving former NFL reporter Dianna Russini and New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel continues to drag on. The report that’s supposedly been in the works is still “weeks away” from seeing the light of day, and people inside the building are apparently getting restless.
You know things are getting spicy when journalists start investigating other journalists.
Russini has long been one of the biggest names in NFL reporting. She breaks news, gets scoops, and somehow always seems to know what’s happening before everyone else. That’s exactly why the rumors surrounding her relationship with Vrabel have become such a hot topic.
Steven Ginsberg, Russini‘s boss at The Athletic, initially launched a defiant defense of Russini, before she was put on leave and ultimately resigned after Ginsberg said ‘additional information emerged’.
He said an investigation would be launched but now, two months on, Athletic staffers are frustrated that the probe is dragging, as per Page Six.
Ginsberg was quoted as telling staff last week: ‘It’s going to take a few more weeks.
‘There’s just a lot to go through, and we obviously want to take our time and be careful doing that.
‘We will update everybody when we get to the end of that. We’ve also said that if we find anything that needs to be corrected, we will correct it along the way.’
People want answers, the internet wants drama, Patriots fans want to know what’s going on and NFL fans want something to argue about until training camp starts.
And somewhere in a New York Times office, investigators are probably staring at a mountain of emails, phone records, and interview notes while the rest of the sports world refreshes X every five minutes.
