Reality television is supposed to be dramatic, but sometimes the drama leaves the TV screen and takes a hard turn into “wait, what just happened?”

That’s the situation involving former TLC star Karen Derrico, who was arrested in Las Vegas after allegedly making threats against her ex-husband and some of their children during an increasingly messy divorce battle.

According to reports, Karen is accused of threatening to kill her ex-husband and “any” of their children who sided with him amid the couple’s ongoing split. Needless to say, that is not the type of family bonding exercise most therapists recommend.

The 46-year-old reality star was hit with charges of harassment, violating a restraining order, preventing a witness from testifying through threat of violence, and aggravated stalking.

Derrico also allegedly wrote a chilling email on June 14 threatening her ex-husband, Deon Derrico, and their 14 kids, according to court records obtained by Oxygen True Crime.

‘I want you dead,’ read the message according to the filing.

‘I could kill you, and it won’t even bother me to go to jail, and I’ll kill any of my kids if they take your side.’

Another email allegedly written by the television star threatened that she would have someone kill Deon and said that she planned on getting a gun.

Officials said the messages left Deon ‘in reasonable fear of death or substantial bodily harm,’ according to the outlet.

Divorces are rarely pleasant. Most couples argue over money, property, or who gets stuck keeping the old furniture nobody actually wants. But when alleged threats enter the conversation, things move from awkward family dispute to serious legal territory very quickly.

Her attorney, Jess Marchese, told TMZ that Deon fabricated the threats and sent the messages to himself.

Marchese added that they are working with tech experts to prove the messages were faked. The attorney also said that the mother would never threaten to harm her children.

The attorney said that the mother has been released on a $2,000 bond and is wearing an ankle monitor. She was arraigned on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty.

The mother of more than a dozen children was the center of the show, which followed her and her now ex-husband as they raised their large family.

The pair split in 2024, but an insider told TMZ that they continued living together for financial reasons and so the huge family could remain one unit.

However, after it became clear that the relationship would not work, Derrico moved out of the home, taking four of the children with her.

For now, Karen Derrico finds herself at the center of a headline nobody wants attached to their name. And while reality television thrives on family drama, this is one storyline that nobody expected to see unfold off-screen.
