Following America’s dismal World Cup exit, pregnant US soccer icon Carli Lloyd has responded to an online troll who body-shamed her.
Since the US men’s national team was eliminated from the competition by Belgium, the Fox Sports analyst has been harsh in her criticism, which has resulted in backlash on social media.
Lloyd, who is expecting her second child in September, confronted the trolls on Wednesday instead of ignoring them and swiftly retaliated against the anonymous X user.
The conversation started after Lloyd criticized Christian Pulisic, a standout player from the United States, for remarks he made following his team’s departure regarding taking a “rest.”
Lloyd had responded by writing on X:
‘ You rest when your playing career is over. Period.’
Then, a social media troll going by the handle “Moonshot Magician” retaliated against Lloyd by posting a picture of her on Fox and writing, “Looks like you’ve [sic] been resting really good lately big mama,” along with a string of laughing emojis.
After that, Lloyd clapped back and tweeted the troll a quote, saying:
‘I can tell you are a gentleman. Do you always disrespect women? Does it make you feel good hiding behind your keyboard?’
As of Wednesday night, the response had received 3.8 million views after going viral. Hundreds of other users had also posted messages of support for the two-time Olympic gold medallist and world champion.
