Jaylen Brown was acquired by the Philadelphia 76ers from the Boston Celtics on Wednesday in a blockbuster trade, but a new report indicates that the move has a significant drawback.
Analyst Colin Cowherd revealed that he had a conversation with an NBA executive and scout who expressed a similar unfavorable opinion of Brown. According to both, Brown has a “disease” that makes him think he’s the smartest person in the room.
“I had two NBA sources… two people in the league, one an executive, one a scout, say that Jaylen Brown has — it’s a disease”. “He suddenly thinks he’s the smartest guy in every room he’s in… You make a lot of money, suddenly you’re absolutely sure, you don’t wanna listen to your bosses, you don’t wanna listen to consultants, you don’t wanna listen to teammates.”
It remains to be seen if this assertion about the 76ers will be accurate. However, Brown’s appearance is undoubtedly poor. Ego definitely has no place in Philadelphia, where there are now many celebrities in a single locker room.
As far as the public is concerned, Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, and Joel Embiid had no problems last season; ideally, adding Brown will have the same impact.
Positively, Brown’s mindset during the previous season has been praised by Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla. The general agreement that the 76ers defrauded the Celtics in this trade is the other significant advantage.
In 71 games during the 2025–2026 season, Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 47.7% shooting, and 34.7% three-point shooting. George finished the 2025–2026 season with 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists on 43.9% shooting and 39.2% three-point shooting in 37 games.
In addition, Brown is about seven years George’s junior.
