Following a thorough investigation into the Sherrone Moore affair, Warde Manuel is leaving his position as head of the University of Michigan athletic department at the end of the current academic year.
Before expressing gratitude to the seasoned administrator, Michigan President Domenico Grasso declared:
“Today, I am announcing that Warde Manuel has told me that he would like to step down,”
“I have the deepest respect for Warde and his countless contributions to Michigan and have asked him to stay on until the end of the calendar year.”
Only a few days prior to Manuel’s resignation, a shocking independent probe chastised him for taking too long to address accusations of misconduct within his department. Moore’s relationship with Paige Shiver and his dismissal served as the impetus for the 20,000-page document, 350-interview investigation.
Manuel was commended for his unwavering dedication to the student-athletes and for helping Ann Arbor win national titles in men’s basketball and football. Michigan has now announced that it will start a nationwide search for a new sports director who will be responsible for clearing up the mess caused by the Moore issue.
