Enes Kanter Freedom has once again found himself in the middle of a WNBA conversation. And this time, Los Angeles Sparks star Cameron Brink is not letting his comments slide.
Freedom has been outspoken about transgender athletes competing in women’s sports. His stance has sparked plenty of debate online. It has also rubbed several people in the WNBA the wrong way.
After the Sparks finished practice on Wednesday afternoon, Brink was asked about the controversy surrounding Freedom and the league. She made it clear that she was not exactly rushing to join his fan club.

Brink called out Freedom over his position.
Enes Kanter Freedom responds to reports that he’s ineligible to play in the WNBA:

“For me personally, when it comes to the trans issues I believe you’re talking about, I think it’s a non-issue and it’s people trying to just come for the trans community, and I just don’t stand for that,” Brink said to WNBA reporter Jarrod Castillo of The Mirror US. “I don’t know what the f— his name is, Enes Kanter, like he’s a stupid piece of s—t.”
“I think people are tuned in [to the WNBA] for the right reasons,” Brink said. “It’s great that we can all talk about things that are important and hard, and you can have your opinions on that, but I think taking something that’s like a non-issue right now and trying to use it for clickbait, for views, for likes, and then targeting a vulnerable community is just really low.”
The WNBA has become one of the biggest stages in American sports. So when Freedom weighs in on issues involving the league, players are bound to notice.
On Sunday, Freedom was escorted out of an Indiana Fever vs Chicago Sky game after he got into a verbal exchange with Natash Cloud.
After watching Sophie Cunningham shoot a three-point shot, Freedom said that Cloud came up to him and told him, “She’s not going to sleep with you.”
Freedom said that he wasn’t there “to sleep with her,” and that he was in attendance to “protect women and support her.”
On August 7, Freedom announced that he was planning to enter the WNBA Draft, and then officially declared on August 10, as a transgender player, despite the league having zero players identifying as transgender.
Brink’s response shows that players are not simply going to sit quietly while outside voices discuss their sport and their teammates.
Freedom clearly believes strongly in his position, Brink clearly disagrees with him and neither side appears interested in pretending otherwise.
At this point, Freedom may want to consider getting a frequent-flyer card for WNBA controversy.
