Delonte West is opening up about something that does not involve basketball stats, trade rumors, or another NBA debate nobody asked for.
The former NBA guard recently revealed that LeBron James and his family continued checking on him during some of the toughest periods of his life.
West shared the update during an August 23 appearance on Kick streamer N3on’s livestream. His comments offered a glimpse into a relationship that has somehow survived years of public attention, rumors, and plenty of internet noise.

And honestly, that is refreshing.
West said James regularly contacted his mother to make sure he was doing well. “A lot of guys that I played with, LeBron, he’s my – him and his family has called,” West said, before adding, “He called my mom all the time, made sure I’m okay.”
N3on asked whether James’ family had also reached out, and said, “That’s great.”
West confirmed that Gloria James remained involved in checking on his family. “Miss James, Miss Gloria, she calls my mom, made sure she was still the same,” he said.
West then recalled a message passed through his mother. “Tell my son, ‘I seen him, you better get it together. Don’t make me come check on,'” he said.
The comments come as West has recently offered more positive updates about his life. Earlier this month, he said he was “living a good life” in West Palm Beach, Florida.
There are no points, assists, dunks, or chase-down blocks involved. Just a former teammate talking about someone who did not completely disappear when the cameras moved elsewhere.
That part is easy to forget about professional sports.
Fans see the jerseys and the contracts, they see the highlights, they argue about who is better and complain when somebody misses a free throw.
Players, meanwhile, build real relationships.
West’s comments show that some of those relationships can last long after the final buzzer.
Whatever happened on the court, and whatever rumors followed them off it, West says LeBron and his family continued to check in.
That is a pretty powerful reminder that sometimes the biggest assist has nothing to do with basketball.
