The Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy, rejoined the team on Monday after missing two weeks due to his wife, Mia, being shot. Bieniemy traveled to Virginia to be with his wife, who was allegedly shot at the family home by the couple’s son. As a result, Bieniemy missed eleven practices.
Mia Bieniemy, 57, has been stable since being admitted to the hospital on July 26.
A few days later, coach Andy Reid announced that she had been discharged from the intensive care unit. Although they did not reveal the woman’s identity, Loudoun County, Virginia, police stated that she was receiving treatment for “serious injuries” resulting from several gunshot wounds.
According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, was detained and charged on July 27 with malicious wounding, using a firearm in the conduct of a felony, and discharging a firearm within a habitation. Mia Bieniemy was shot in the arm and chest, according to sources who spoke to ESPN. Police say Elijah Bieniemy is being detained at a Loudoun County detention facility without bond.
