An investigation into an improper student relationship led to the arrest of a former Texas high school teacher, Holly Adams. Almost a year after authorities started looking into her, a former Texas teacher was arrested on Tuesday on charges of having improper interactions with students.
Holly Adams, a teacher at Angleton High School in the Houston area, is accused with two charges of buying or providing alcohol to a juvenile and one count of tampering with evidence.
According to KTRK-TV, the investigation started when a student informed school personnel that Adams was having an improper connection with a former pupil. According to the news site, the student informed school administrators that the victim FaceTime-called him during the summer from a bedroom in Adams’ home, and that the bed was covered with naked pictures of her.
Another picture showed Adams and the former student cuddling. Adams allegedly admitted to chatting on Snapchat with three members of the school baseball team and asked them to do chores at her house.
According to Gail Saltz, MD, a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College, many female educators who sexually assault male pupils occasionally persuade themselves that the connection is acceptable.
Saltz stated to Fox News Digital:
“They’re more likely to be psychologically both grooming their victim, but also what’s called self grooming”. “They are convincing themselves that what they are doing is having an intimate, romantic relationship that is benefiting the victim as well.”
According to Saltz, the harm done to male pupils is equal to that done to female victims:
“It is easily as damaging in terms of, you’ve been abused by an adult. And that adult took advantage of your trust”. “That violated boundaries that you weren’t ready for.”
The following day, Adams was brought to the Brazoria County Detention Center and freed on a $26,000 bond. According to a representative who spoke with Fox News Digital, he is no longer employed with the Angleton Independent School District.
