After reportedly stabbing a Lyft driver eleven times before taking his vehicle, Naziyha La’Nay Weatherall will stay behind bars. On April 22, Naziyha La’Nay Weatherall, 22, asked for a Lyft from her Greenville County housing complex.
According to authorities, she approached the man when it arrived, stabbed him eleven times in the head, and then took his car and drove off.
The driver was taken to the hospital after being discovered with severe injuries close to Haywood Road and East North Street. According to Greenville County jail records, she has subsequently been charged with carjacking resulting in bodily injury and possession of a firearm during a violent felony.
Prosecutors described the attack’s circumstances at a hearing on Friday, painting a troubling picture of how a regular ridesharing pickup allegedly turned violent.
The driver’s wife spoke in court on his behalf, stating that over four months later, her husband is still coping with the psychological and physical fallout and was too traumatized to be present.
In an effort to refute the accusations, the defense highlighted that Weatherall was experiencing a “mental health crisis” and had no past criminal convictions, claiming multiple diagnoses.
Weatherall had schizophrenia, was unstable, and experienced strong and regular hallucinations at the time of the attack, according to WHNS.
