Rashee Rice, a wide receiver with the Kansas City Chiefs, talked about the “reality check” he experienced during his 30-day incarceration. Due to a hit-and-run incident in 2024, the Chiefs player was judged to have violated his probation in May.
He was given five years of probation as part of his plea agreement, which he later broke after testing positive for marijuana. On June 16, after his release, he was captured on tape literally sprinting out of the jail.
For the first time since his release, Rice talked to media about his “mentally tough” stint in Dallas County Jail. On Tuesday, the 26-year-old Super Bowl champion stated:
“A learning experience. A reality check, and don’t focus on the past, focus on what’s going on right now,”
“It was mentally tough. They gave me ways to communicate with my teammates still and as well as my athletic trainer, ”. “Besides the hard times in there, I kept my mind right watching shows and as much [of comedian] Kevin Hart as I could to laugh.”
“I’m 100% locked in on what’s going on now with the team,”
Rice was recovering from a clean-up procedure on his right knee while serving his sentence in prison. His right LCL injury in 2024 caused inflammation, which required surgery to remove loose material. Rice admitted that his knee discomfort affected how well he performed the previous season.
Rice was unable to get off to a fast start after serving a six-game suspension for breaking the league’s personal conduct policy after the hit-and-run incident in 2024. During the 2025 NFL season, he participated in eight games and amassed 571 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
