A.J. Brown, a wide receiver with the New England Patriots, is thought to have suffered a high-ankle sprain during a Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
NFL Network, The Athletic, and the Schultz Report were informed of the development on Thursday by sources. During the third quarter of Wednesday’s 13–10 loss in Seattle, Brown injured his right ankle.
Ankle fractures were not seen on X-rays. To ascertain a possible return date, Brown will have further imaging on Thursday. NFL players usually miss two to six weeks due to high-ankle sprains.
In his Patriots debut, the eight-year veteran—who was acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles in June—caught three passes for 26 yards.
After Brown and fellow starters DeMario Douglas and Romeo Doubs, the Patriots’ backup wide receivers are Kyle Williams, Efton Chism III, and Mack Hollins.
The Patriots’ practice squad includes wide receivers Cameron Dorner and Kyle Dixon. In the first game of the season, Hollins led the Patriots with 51 yards on four receptions. Rhamondre Stevenson, a running back, and Douglas combined for a team-high five catches.
