Daejon Love’s fake-athlete career apparently had more plot twists than a Netflix series.
Before allegedly pretending to be a San Francisco 49ers player, Love reportedly posed as an overseas basketball player. Apparently one fake sports career was not enough.
Love was arrested on August 24 and is now facing two federal wire fraud charges in Oregon. Prosecutors allege that he impersonated a 49ers player as part of schemes involving women, romance and investments.

But the latest details make the story even stranger.
According to reports, Love had previously presented himself as a professional basketball player overseas. Then, somewhere along the way, football entered the script.
And suddenly, he was allegedly a 49ers player. That is quite the career change.
According to a group of men who used to play pickup basketball with Love, his first story was that he allegedly played professional basketball overseas.
Marvelous Owens, defensive back at Northeastern State University, posted a video on social media explaining Love’s original tale.
“I ain’t gonna lie, Daejon, Jon, whatever y’all wanna call him. Dude cool as hell. I remember the first time I met dude, he pulled up to the gym, Hellcat. Next week, dude pull up Lamborghini Urus.
“Y’all don’t even know the truth. Dude talking about he played pro basketball overseas. Then he start talking about he played football. But his first lie was he played overseas basketball. Most of y’all don’t know that,” Owens said.
Most people need years of training to move from basketball to football. Love allegedly needed only a convincing story and some confidence.
The alleged scheme reportedly involved Love using his fake NFL identity to build romantic relationships with women. He allegedly used those relationships to gain their trust before introducing investment opportunities.
Love’s victims have continued to step forward and provide evidence surrounding his alleged scam. There have been a confirmed 26 women that were allegedly swindled for $1.3 million by Love.
The 35-year-old fraudster is being held in a cell at the Ada County Jail in Boise, Idaho. He will be transferred to Oregon and faces one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of wire fraud.
It is the classic “trust me” routine, except the trust was allegedly built on a completely fictional sports résumé.
Love may have created several different versions of himself, but federal court has a habit of introducing people to the real one.
