Days before the University of Florida‘s season opener, a guy committed suicide by jumping to his death at the football stadium on Monday morning.
Just before 9:50 a.m., police were called to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville in response to complaints of a guy standing on a ledge, according to the Gainesville Sun.
The unidentified 51-year-old guy was discovered atop a concrete beam in the west concourse of the stadium, where police attempted to persuade him to safely descend.
But according to the publication, the man stumbled and landed on the concourse next to the stadium’s Gate 4.
It was calculated that the drop was between sixty and eighty feet high. The victim was reportedly aware and breathing when first responders administered “life-saving measures” to him.
However, the individual was declared deceased at 10:05 a.m. after suffering serious injuries in the fall. Officials described it as an isolated incidence because there was another person in the stadium at the time.
The man’s identity was being kept secret until his family was notified. According to WCJB, he had no affiliation with the university and was probably homeless. Less than a year had passed since Ohio State student William Meyers committed suicide by jumping at the school’s football stadium.
On September 26, 2025, at around 10 a.m., the 19-year-old Connecticut native was discovered close to the northeast corner of Ohio Stadium. It was declared that his death was a suicide.
