Kayla Simmons has entered the Sydney Sweeney debate. And she did it with a thirst trap.
The volleyball influencer shared a video defending Sweeney after the actress faced criticism over a racy betting advertisement. Simmons argued that the backlash highlights a bigger problem with how women are judged.
According to Simmons, there is a deep hypocrisy at work. Women are often expected to look attractive, but apparently not too attractive. They can be confident, but only within an approved little box.
Apparently, there is an invisible handbook for being a “respectable” woman, and everyone on the internet has a copy.

According to Kayla Simmons:
Sydney Sweeneys gambling ad doesn’t set back women in sports.
There is a deep hypocrisy in forcing women into a box to be considered “respectable.” It used to be traditional dress codes calling a woman’s shape a “distraction.”
Today, it is online mobs telling her to minimize her appeal under the guise of “activism.” That isn’t progress—it’s just a new version of the same old control.
What’s wild is completely ignoring that she is a talented actress, business owner, and executive. The moment a woman uses her appeal to her advantage, society acts like her achievements are erased.
If you want to empower women in sports, then buy the tickets, show up to games, and celebrate their accomplishments.
Hopping on a trend to bash a woman isn’t empowerment, and we can easily celebrate athletes without shaming a woman who chooses to embrace how she looks and use it however she wants.
Whether people agree with the campaign is another question.
People are allowed to dislike an advertisement. They are allowed to think it is clever and are allowed to scroll past it and get on with their day.
What Simmons is challenging is the idea that a woman’s sexuality should determine how seriously she is treated.
And judging by the reaction, that debate is nowhere near finished.
Apparently, one racy ad was all it took to turn the internet into a courtroom again.
