Damoun Patterson, a former member of the NFL practice squad, was detained in Florida on felony charges, including aggravated assault and armed burglary, according to authorities who spoke with CBS 12.
The 31-year-old was allegedly charged by the Daytona Beach Police Department with grand theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, armed burglary of a home, and criminal mischief.
According to Volusia County jail booking records cited by CBS 12, Patterson, who allegedly signed with the Patriots, Steelers, Falcons, and Buccaneers, was still detained as of Monday afternoon.
Video of the arrest, which showed police pulling over a white Kia, was made public by CBS 12. With a rifle in hand, the policeman instructed Patterson, the driver, to carefully exit the vehicle, saying:
“You be cool with me, we’ll be cool with you.”
As he put Patterson in handcuffs, he explained that he was merely being held and then inquired about his origins. “Orlando,” said Patterson, who subsequently revealed his identity.
Eventually, the officer identified what seemed to be a knife in Patterson’s vehicle. Later, Patterson talked to police about his time with the Steelers, claiming that he broke “both toes” after the team reportedly timed him at 23 mph.
Patterson went on to say that he wanted the Steelers to acknowledge that they ought to have selected him in the draft. One cop remarked, “You played on the Steelers?” Patterson replied that they had invited him to work out.
Patterson was then told by one of the officers that the car was stolen and that he would be going to jail.
