Former NFL quarterback Tony Romo has spoken up more than a month after being arrested in Milwaukee for an OWI violation.
Romo allegedly did badly on a field sobriety test when he was stopped for a traffic check on July 23 on Milwaukee’s I-43 south.
The former Dallas Cowboys player was then taken into custody by law officials for an OWI booking before being released. Romo’s case was amended on August 27 to include additional charges for first-time OWI, unsafe passing on the right, and possessing open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. After his arrest, he had already been cited for refusing to take the sobriety test.

Romo stated in the statement that he “owns this completely” after entering a no contest plea to a civil OWI charge in Wisconsin that morning.
Romo continued by describing how several back operations terminated his career sooner than he had planned and left him in excruciating pain all the time. He consequently became dependent on painkillers, and his attempts to stop taking them resulted in an excessive reliance on alcohol.
Romo claims that he accepts responsibility for his actions and that nothing he says in his statement justifies them. Romo claims he is closely collaborating with a group of physicians to examine his health and make the required adjustments in light of recent occurrences.
