Nobody has ever led a life similar to Muhammad Ali‘s. Numerous novels, documentaries, and biographical dramas about the acknowledged Greatest of All Time recount his experiences as a heavyweight champion and political activist.
In fact, Muhammad Ali himself starred in a film about him. However, a brand-new Prime Video series called The Greatest seeks to offer more than just a biography of a boxer.
The Greatest is not solely about Cassius Clay, but also about the family that nurtured him into a legend. Director of the Muhammad Ali Center, in a conversation with Esquire:
“Most things you’ve seen or read, they don’t go into his childhood much,”
“The Greatest is his pathway to growth, at home with his brother and his parents. It’s a granular deep dive into Muhammad’s life, to understand who he was, how he started, and how he progressed to become one of the most beloved icons.”
Developed by Ben Watkins and featuring Lonnie Ali as one of its executive producers, The Greatest showcases newcomer Jaalen Best portraying Muhammad Ali during the period from his gold-medal win at the 1960 Olympics in Rome to his title fight against Sonny Liston in February 1964.
The series will start streaming on Prime Video on November 4.
