Yes, you read that title correctly and yes, I am just as confused as you are. But, let me try to explain.
New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert is well known for how much he loves hip-hop and has been known to drop a freestyle even from time to time. So to hear about him rapping on a track isn’t a huge shock and numerous NBA players before him have done so as well.
The interesting thing is more so the fact that Shumpert will be appearing on the debut album of the First Lady. Rolling Out has the details of how exactly this is happening.
Although she probably won’t rhyme or sing on any songs, it will be the first time that a first lady has delved into hip-hop for a greater cause.
The album will promote Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign in an effort to fight childhood obesity. Obama enlisted DMC, Doug E. Fresh, Ashanti, Monifah and other artists to create songs on the 19-track album.
The project, sponsored by Partnership For A Healthier America and Hip Hop Public Health, will seek to raise awareness through entertainment.
We will have that track for you when it officially releases. Shumpert will be on one called “Pass The Rock”.
