When you first see this headline or read this story, you may think of the show Playmakers by ESPN that turned out to be a pretty accurate representation of what NFL life is like. It way a little too real and the NFL had the show cancelled, but now Showtime would like its shot at tackling a controversial subject: PED use. The network is developing a show based on PED use in sports called Dope:
Showtime has put in development Dope, an hourlong drama about the business of performance-enhancing drugs for athletes and the doctor who popularized it in South Florida. The project is timely in light of the Alex Rodriguez scandal, but it is fictional and not based on recent events.
They didn’t have to reach much for a title did they? I’m interested to see how this goes. They are also said to be consulting with some sportswriters so the stories may be pretty close to an accurate description. If they focus on all sports, maybe each league will try to shut them down.
