The Beats by Dre ban by the NFL in favor of BOSE is causing somewhat of a rebellious revolution by the players. After Colin Kaepernick infamously taped over the ‘B’ logo on the headphones after already being fined $10,000 for wearing them, it was clear who won in the war between the BOSE and Beats.
Even Jimmy Lovine couldn’t hold back his excitement after the NFL ban, as the move has worked completely in the company’s favor. Lovine stated:
“We didn’t do anything, and now the players are going out and putting black tape on our logo,” Lovine said. “It’s like, I can’t believe I’m this lucky. I feel like sending them the tape.”
The free publicity being given to Beats coupled with players going out their way to bash BOSE headphones is turning out to be a huge victory. Lovine then dropped knowledge about why the ban has backfired:
“What happened there, you have a tech company that’s culturally inept,” Lovine said. “There’s no one at the company that said, ‘If you ban these guys, you’re going to look bad to the young people, and they’re going to look like superheroes even though they’re just pure capitalists — well they’re not pure capitalists, but they’re real capitalist and [they] sold that company to Apple — but you’re going to make them look like the underdog.”
He’s all too right. Now BOSE comes off as the proverbial grumpy old man telling the ‘kids’ to get off his lawn. Brilliant.
