I think everyone is aware of this fact except Jets GM John Idzik.
Rex Ryan and the New York Jets dug a pretty big hole while waiting for Geno Smith to prove that he was the organizations future at quarterback.
For the second straight week the Jets offense responded to Vick, and this time he led the Jets to an upset win over Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
When asked if he believed the Jets would be in a better place if he’d started sooner, Vick shot straight from the hip with his answer.
“In my heart, yes,” Vick said, via The Star-Ledger. “Yeah, I mean, to sit here and say no would show a lack of confidence in myself and my teammates. But absolutely, I think if I was starting from Day One, then maybe it would’ve been an opportunity. But that wasn’t the case. I wasn’t put in that situation. The team wasn’t put in that situation.”
Vick went on to say that he feels like he could still start for most NFL teams,
To Vick’s credit, he says he understood why the Jets went with Geno Smith for so long.
“The (Jets) coaches made the decisions, and I totally understood everything that was taking place,” Vick said. “It was all about developing a young quarterback (Smith), mentoring a young quarterback and giving him every opportunity to succeed.”
