The Price is Right serves most of their viewers by inviting the occasional elder contestant to participate.
Most recently we had an 84 year old woman winning a new car after drilling a “Hole in One.. or Two”.
A woman old enough to be your grandma wins a $16,000 car on one of her favorite shows. What a great story, right?
Not for the internet. The trolls immediately came out citing the woman’s “illegal stance”.
Eventually it had gained enough traction that it led to reputable websites such as Golf Digest, and the Golf Channel, among others, to clarify her exact error.
16-1e states: “On the putting green a player shall not make a stroke from astride, or with either foot touching the line of the putt, or an extension of that line behind the ball.”
The rule was put in place in 1968 when Sam Snead – owner of the record for most PGA Tour wins (82) – began putting in a similar fashion to Margret while searching for a cure to the putting yips.
Good thing they’re not on a golf course where these rules were meant to be enforced.
Let this be our daily reminder that no matter how innocent and fun something may seem, there will always be someone there trying to rain on your parade. It’s best to just keep celebrating, like her.
