The legend of Matthew Dellavedova grows by the day, and the venom that comes with every Stephen Curry missed jump shot grows by the minute.
Klay Thompson’s dad, and former NBA champion, Mychal Thompson weighed in on the debate about whether or not Delly is truly responsible for Curry’s struggles.
Dellavedova, he couldn’t stop Steph if Steph was asleep,” Thompson said on ESPN Radio. “Steph is that good of an offensive player, that great of a shooter, that great of a ballhandler. Giving him credit for stopping Steph Curry, people who are doing that don’t understand that Steph Curry is one of those kind of guys: Kevin Durant, Kobe when Kobe was in his prime, there’s nothing to do with guys like them. They’re going to score. You just try to make it as difficult as possible for ’em.
“Dellavedova’s scrapping and he’s hustling, I give him credit for that,” Thompson continued. “And he’s trying his little heart out. But no, come on, it’s a joke to think he can stop Steph Curry.”
Scrappy is a stereotypical and nice term for the Australian/white Dellavedova, but the truth is, black or white, Delly has been in Curry’s a** from the moment this series started.
Black or white, he’s going to be in Curry’s hip pocket on every possession, and you have to respect that. No he can’t stop Curry, but he can definitely disrupt the Warriors offensive flow and has succeeded in making the MVP look bad in stretches.
