The Olympics are slated to take place in Brazil in August. We are 48 days out from the start of the Olympics and Rio has declared a financial emergency.
The problems in Brazil are insane and truth be told they have no business having the Olympics there. Brazilians were vehemently against having the World Cup there in 2014 and they feel the same way about the Olympics.
People in Rio are protesting about the schools, roads, hospitals, pensions, salaries etc. Brazil is going through a massive recession at the moment, battling the biggest corruption scandal in their history and they want their President Dilma Rousseff to resign but she won’t step down.
All these issues have been surrounding Rio and the Zika Virus hasn’t even been brought up yet.
To add a cherry on top Reuters reports that Rio has declared a financial emergency and are requesting funding for the Olympics.
Emergency measures are needed to avoid “a total collapse in public security, health, education, transport and environmental management,” a decree in the state’s Official Gazette said.
Yes, to avoid a TOTAL collapse because it’s not close to it.
It’s insane that there are so many issues but when the Olympics start the opening ceremony, you won’t have a clue unless you’ve read this of course.
At first glance it always seems cool to have an Olympics or World Cup in your country but think about it. Think about what you’ll pay and what issues are going on because everything will take a back seat for the games.
