Kevin Love underwent arthroscopic knee surgery this week to remove loose bodies in his injured knee, but did he play with his injury for too long?
Before tonight’s game vs the Pacers, Coach Tyronn Lue, spoke about Kevin Love playing on the hurt knee for 3 games before the surgery.
“He was already heading for surgery,” Lue said. “It was already [hurt]. Loose bodies were already in there so he just played through it, and then after it got to a certain point he got the MRI and he found out it was loose bodies floating around.”
Lue said the injury was aggravated even more after playing Denver on Saturday.
“He played through it, his knee was swollen a little bit,” Lue said, detailing how Love’s injury progressed. “Then he came and got the MRI after that third game, and so, now we have the results.”
This is not the best look for coach Lue, considering Kevin Love’s injury history as an NBA player in general. If Lue knew that Love was already headed for surgery, then why risk further damage by playing him? Kevin Love was an integral part of the Cavs championship run last season, so it’s a bit puzzling that more precaution was not taken.
Love is expected to miss 6 weeks of game action as he recovers from surgery.
