The Oklahoma City Thunder are in Brooklyn tonight facing the Nets at Barclays Center. The Thunder enter the game at 37-29 and the 6th seed in the Western conference, only 2.5 games behind the Clippers for 5th. You know about the Thunder’s all-world point guard, team leader, and MVP candidate Russell Westbrook. The Brodie is averaging a triple double this season and carrying the Thunder to a better record than many experts predicted.
Thunder head coach Billy Donovan spoke to the media pregame about Westbrook, the team’s current play and new additions Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott. When asked about the playoffs, Donovan said, “we’re not in the playoffs right now, we’re worried about getting better.” I followed up that question and asked what are the two things the team is focusing on the last twenty or so games of the regular season. Consistency and identity on both ends of the floor was the theme in his answer.
