The Undefeated’s Marc Spears recently spoke with Clippers head coach Doc Rivers. In this candid interview Doc talked about his former team, the Boston Celtics and their upcoming 10 year anniversary of a championship. Doc thinks time heals all wounds and hopes the “beef” with Ray Allen and his old teammates will be squashed.
If your memory needs refreshing, Allen left the Celtics to join their rivals the Miami Heat in 2012. A decision that his teammates didn’t appreciate given the animosity between both teams. Never mind the fact that Allen had been the subject of trade rumors the two seasons prior. In the interview, Doc said:
The Ray thing? I don’t know. I think it will (heal). At the end of the day, that team was as close of a group of any I have ever been around. So, when one leaves, it hurts your feelings. I think that’s what happened with our guys. Ray’s a terrific guy. We all know that. The guys that are with him are terrific. It will get back.
Rivers and his former Celtics players Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett appeared together on Area 21 during the playoffs and discussed how they felt about Ray leaving. The players were certainly hurt. But my guess like Rivers is time is the key, he added:
I think the time will help them get back together. Well, at least I’m hoping. So far, unsuccessfully. But I do think it will happen.
