With the fourth overall pick in the 1981 draft, the Seattle Seahawks drafted Kenny Easley.
Kenny “The Enforcer” made a name for himself at the University of California, Los Angeles as he was elected a three-time Defensive-All American.
Easley tallied up 93 tackles which was a record for a true freshman, he would later become the first player in conference history to be honored as all-conference for four consecutive years.
Easley finished his defensive run at UCLA with a school record 19 interceptions and 324 tackles.
To say the least, Easley was a stud and the Seahawks were quick to put him into action. As a rookie he snagged three interceptions for 155 yards, scoring one touchdown and won the American Football Conference Defensive Rookie of The Year Award.
Easley didn’t disappoint as the next season he had 10 takeaways and won the AFC Defensive Player of The Year Award.
The success continued for Easley, in 1984, he would win Defensive Player of The Year. This makes him the first safety to win that award since Dick Anderson in 1973.
Easley would sign a five-year deal making him the highest paid player at that time.
That passion would carry on to“Alderwood Oldsmobile & Cadillac” in Lynnwood Washington that Easley and Rick Johnson own.
The Seattle Seahawks inducted Kenny Easley into the Ring of Honor in 2002 and in February of 2017, Easley was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
