According to several sports news outlets, including FoxSports.com, Manny Ramirez has filed for reinstatement to Major League Baseball, a move some expected due to his sudden retirement last year amid his reluctance to serve a 100 game suspension for his second positive test for performance enhancing drugs.
Ramirez, once considered one of the greatest and most feared right handed hitters in the history of the game, would be eligible to play in 2012 once he serves his suspension. What once was a sure Hall of Fame career was derailed late in his playing days by the two positive drug tests.
The suspension is expected to be reduced because the MLBPA has argued that Ramirez has served the suspension because of his retirement, therefore forfeiting his salary. The league said Ramirez didn’t officially serve the suspension so it is expected that they will settle at 50 games.
If that is the case, count it as a win for Manny Ramirez who has hired Barry Praver and Scott Shapiro as his agents, who will work hard to get their new client signed this offseason.
