Guess who’s in hot water in ritzy Palm Beach? None other than the owner of several boutiques, Olena Austin, has recently been charged with selling counterfeit clothing and jewelry worth a whopping $2 million.
It seems like Olena was living the high life in the luxurious town of Palm Beach, hobnobbing with the rich and famous, including President Donald Trump. But it looks like her extravagant lifestyle may have caught up with her as she faces serious charges for selling fake Chanel, Tiffany, and Rolex products in her boutiques.
The stores were selling fugazi knock-offs of top-shelf designer brands like Chanel, Tiffany, Rolex, Versace, Pucci, Bottega Veneta and Van Cleef & Arpel — and telling customers they were the real deal, police said.
“We have to go through the authentication process with all the brands to, you know, more fully authenticate exactly the values on the counterfeit items,” Palm Beach Cap. Will Rothrock told WPTV. “That might bring additional charges later.
“Innocent tourists might be buying something that they believe is a certain item and a certain value,” Rothrock said. “And they may not find out until years later, unexpectedly, that it was counterfeit and not worth what they think it is.”
He said the fakes could also affect other merchants in the area, whose prices are undercut.
According to an affidavit reviewed by the news outlet, a company called “A Action Investigations & Security, Inc.” is listed as the victim of the scam, but a spokesperson declined to comment.
Olena was arrested at one of the shop on June 7 and was later released on a $50,000 bond.
