Less than a week ago, Lindsey Vonn suffered an ACL rupture in an accident during a race. People were concerned that her Olympic return was over as she was evacuated to a Swiss hospital, but she reassured them on Tuesday that she still planned to compete at the Milan Cortina Games.
The day before the opening ceremony, on Thursday morning, Vonn shared a video of herself exercising while squatting with several plates, set to Andy Grammer’s “Don’t Give Up On Me.” She is rapidly bouncing up and down. She’s jumping and sliding side to side. In fact, she’s kicking a ball.
Knowing that she tore her ACL six days ago, it’s the kind of video that makes you question why there is such a big deal when football and basketball players miss entire seasons due to the same injury.
You also wonder if it would seem more or less amazing to ski down a hill on that same torn ACL after witnessing this. To simply make it to the gate on Saturday and beyond, Vonn is obviously using superhuman willpower.
