Aaron Rodgers Trashes Ex Danica Patrick Over “Monster Partner” Tag

Aaron Rodgers is apparently done letting his old relationship with Danica Patrick do laps around the internet. The NFL quarterback has finally pushed back against the story his ex-girlfriend has told about their breakup. And judging by his comments, he is not exactly sending her a Christmas card.

Rodgers addressed Patrick during Thursday’s episode of the “Not Just Football” podcast. The topic was his relationship with the former NASCAR star, and Rodgers decided it was time to put his side of the story on the record.

Patrick previously described their relationship as emotionally abusive in a 2025 interview. She said the relationship “wore me down to nothing.” She also claimed Rodgers left “a trail of blood” after their breakup in 2020.

Those are not exactly the words you expect to hear about someone you once happily posed with for cameras.

Rodgers, however, strongly rejected the picture painted of him.

The quarterback accused Patrick of creating a public narrative that made him look like a “monster partner.” In other words, Rodgers apparently believes the breakup story has been edited like a bad highlight reel, with him getting all the blame.

“No one cares what they have to say until they say my name,” Rodgers said during a bombshell second part of his sit-down with his Steelers teammate Cam Heyward. “I dated two women who nobody gives a f–k about unless they drop my name — and they like to say their version of the history of what actually happened.

“So I’m this monster of a partner and it’s just f–king horses–t. Number one: Why are you still talking about me? It’s been years.

“I dated Danica. She had just retired [In November 2017]. She was depressed and not fun to be around. But I didn’t leave her because I was trying to be there and be a good partner. Then it was going a certain direction obviously. There was no intimacy; there was nothing.

“I’m buying a house in Malibu and she goes, ‘Do you want to buy it together?’ And I said no. And she said, ‘You know what that means then?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, that’s the way things are going.’ She said, ‘Well, let’s get counseling.’ Then we got counseling. Then COVID hits and we’re stuck together.

“She tells a story that she was so blindsided and getting left by you, and that he leaves a trail of blood around him. And I’m like, what are you talking about? That’s not what happened.”

Celebrity breakups are already messy. Celebrity breakups involving famous athletes are even messier. Add podcast interviews and dramatic descriptions like “trail of blood,” and suddenly everyone has front-row seats to a relationship that ended six years ago.

Rodgers did not mince his words. He made it clear that he does not agree with Patrick’s description of their time together.

At this point, there are two very different stories about the same relationship. Patrick has spoken about the emotional damage she says she suffered. Rodgers has pushed back against the portrayal of him as the villain.

The truth may sit somewhere between the two accounts.

But one thing is certain: this breakup is refusing to retire. Apparently, even six years later, it still has plenty of playing time left.
