Atlanta rapper Young Thug, also known as Jeffery Williams, is currently undergoing a RICO trial initiated on November 27, 2023. Legal complexities and courtroom developments, including plea agreements and a lengthy 10-month jury selection, have contributed to delays. Williams, associated with the YSL gang, a faction of the National Bloods, is accused of orchestrating various crimes, such as murder attempts, armed robbery, witness intimidation, and drug trafficking.
During the YSL RICO trial, defense attorney Brian Steele cross-examined witness Trontavious Stephens, probing gang culture connections. Mentions of Serena Williams's Crip walk and Young Thug's "wipe your nose" gesture ensued. The defense contended these were part of hip-hop culture, rejecting gang affiliations. LeBron James was named, with defense disputing gang signal claims. Prosecution suggested gestures indicated ties to criminal gangs.
Steele argued that even LeBron James occasionally used the gesture while exalting his team members. Trontavious “Tick” Stephens, YSL's co-founder, was questioned about any potential links of LeBron James to the gesture.
