Patrick Mahomes should be jealous of very few, if any, quarterbacks in NFL history. Tom Brady is the only exception.
Brady played until he was 45 years old, smashed every record possible throughout his 23-season career, and won seven Super Bowls.
Patrick Mahomes solution: Get rid of dad bod
Though it won’t be easy, Mahomes is on track to beat Brady in time. And Mahomes is aware of it. He said,
“Tom’s skewed people’s brains on how hard that is to do because of how well he took care of his body. So I’m about to make sure that I get rid of this dad bod if I want to play to 45.”
To play as long as Brady, he has to take care of more than just his body. Mahomes isn’t sure he wants to embark on that trip for a personal reason as well.
The Chiefs quarterback wants to spend as much time as possible with his children. He wouldn’t have enough time to truly savor their growing-up phase if he played for another 17 years. He said,
“I’ve looked, if I played until Tom’s age, my daughter would be 19, 20 years old. I would love to play that long. At the same time, I want to be there for my daughter. If I can do that, I’ll continue to play. But if I feel like it’s taking away from my family time, that’s when I’ll know it’s time to go.”
Mahomes makes it very clear: football and family come first. However, it doesn’t sound like he will think twice about hanging up the cleats if the latter starts to choose the former over the former as he ages. Fortunately, he is only 28 years old, so it is still a long time off.
