Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, has come under fire from Skip Bayless for his choice to re-sign Ezekiel Elliott despite his dismal recent performance.
Elliott is returning to the Cowboys, a move that many believe is motivated more by nostalgia than by a desire to compete.
Elliott is returning to Dallas on a one-year contract after spending a season with the New England Patriots, and Skip Bayless is not impressed. In the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Elliott initially signed with the Cowboys.
He immediately won over the fans, but as his play declined, he was traded to the Patriots for the previous campaign, where he was once again unimpressive.
Bayless criticizes Elliott and Jones
Talking on his program Undisputedly, Bayless stated that the Jones had not improved the team, but had only taken this action to placate the fans. Bayless addressed his fellow hosts,
“Clearly Jerry Jones and company announced this today to try to ease the pain over his not being able to land a single running back in the seven rounds of the draft,” “So it was a PR move to placate Cowboy Nation. Zekke’s back.”
During this outburst, Bayless wasn’t just willing to bash Jones. To accentuate his point, he also targeted Elliott’s performance in the previous few seasons. Skip said,
“Would you believe that Zeke Elliott, in his eight NFL seasons has gone down in yards per game every single season that’s hard to do, but he’s done it,” “And he hit bottom in New England last year, where he averaged 38 yards per game.”
